THE ST. FRANCISCO SHELTER RENOVATION PROJECT

St. Francisco Shelter, an essential building at the AFC’s family retreat center, needs renovations to increase safety for guests, provide more space for dining and activities, allow better accessibility for individuals with disabilities, and provide for the long-term use of the shelter.

Currently, this shelter built in the 1950s faces several problems. The roof is beyond its life expectancy, with weathered shingles and rotting roof beams that urgently need to be replaced. The foundation is eroding because the concrete in front of the shelter was incorrectly graded, allowing water to run into the foundation, rather than drain away from the building. Because of a 98% increase in attendance at the AFC’s events in the last 5 years, the space for dining and activities is now too small to accommodate the number of guests. Additionally, guests with wheelchairs or walkers need accessible tables and chairs, but only picnic tables are available right now. Successful completion of the renovation project will address these problems. Site planning and contractor quotes have already been completed.

The AFC is ready to complete the St. Francisco Shelter renovation project as soon as funding is received. The total amount of funding needed to complete the project is $119,470. Would you consider donating to help get this project up-and-running?
