“Virtual” Divine Mercy Sunday (Day of Grace) on April 19, 2020

AFC Disciple Members John and Debbie Kukula, together with their team, have been conducting a Divine Mercy Sunday celebration in Omaha consistently for several years now. The current pandemic is not going to stop them from sharing the wonderful message of Divine Mercy. During these times, when we can easily fall prey to anxiety and fear, it is now more than ever that we need to be reminded of the care Jesus has for us and His call for us to surrender to Him our cares.

While the pandemic makes it impossible to have an in-person observance, to commemorate the Feast of Mercy, John and Debbie and their team are holding a virtual Divine Mercy Sunday, with inspiring talks, veneration of the Divine Mercy image, and the recitation of the Chaplet of Mercy during the Hour of Mercy with a first-class relic of St. Faustina. The event will be held on Divine Mercy Sunday—April 19, 2020.

The schedule is as follows:

3:30 p.m. EST / 2:30 p.m. CST—Talk from Lisa and Scott Nance—Theme: “Marriage Saved by Mercy”
4:00 p.m. EST / 3:00 p.m. CST—Eucharistic Adoration, sung Chaplet of Divine Mercy, sung Litany of Mercy, Closing Benediction
4:30 p.m. EST / 3:30 p.m. CST—Holy Mass with Celebrant Fr. Benjamin Boyd, Parochial Vicar, Christ the King Church

Rosary Procession During COVID-19

On the vigil of the Solemnity of the Annunciation, our family decided to attempt to replicate the Rosary procession held on Sunday evenings at the Holy Family Fests. Although we originally thought we would do the procession the Sunday evening before the Annunciation, the weather caused us to reschedule to the vigil, which seemed like a beautiful way to begin the observance of this Solemnity. We know that Our Lady loves processions.

We each carried a candle. We processed (6 feet apart of course, due to COVID-19) around a large park which is only a block away from our home, and is physically located in the middle of the little town in which we live. At each "corner" of the park, we stopped and sprinkled holy water with the intention of blessing our town and asking Our Lady's protection. We prayed the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary as we walked. After the Rosary, we recited the Litany of Saint Joseph, asking for his blessing as well.

When we arrived home, we paused in front of our outdoor Holy Family statues and sang a hymn to Our Blessed Mother to conclude our procession. We are grateful to the AFC for leading us to devotion to Our Lady and the Holy Family, and for showing us many loving ways in which to honor them.
