Philippians 4:19: “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

As a spiritual family united in both prayer and action, we are made aware every day of the financial burdens that many families are having to bear at this moment. We are here to support you in prayer, but did you know of the following programs available to you or those you know?

Small Business Assistance Available

Perhaps one of the most obvious blessings of this time is the unification of our elected representatives in their attempts to help those struggling financially due to the rapid closures that our government put into place in March.

If you or anyone you know is an owner or manager of a small business, the AFC encourages you to look into the relief programs being offered by the Small Business Association (SBA). While these programs vary in requirements and complexity and are not always applicable for every situation, there has been a concerted effort by the government to make these programs more appealing and more viable as effective relief to those who are being hurt by the shutdowns across the country. Information on the current programs being offered by the SBA can be found on their website.

Restaurant Worker Assistance Available

Restaurants were often the first businesses impacted by the government mandated shutdowns in March, and their employees are a big percentage of those who have been recently put out of work. If you know of anyone who lost their job due to the shutdown of the restaurant they worked at before it faced a COVID-19 disruption, please have them visit this website. The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation is offering cash grants to restaurant industry employees to assist those impacted in paying rent, utilities, and other necessities.

Stimulus Checks for American Workers and Families

Under the CARES Act, American workers and families that meet certain criteria will receive stimulus money to help them weather the fallout of the shutdowns. The amount received will depend on numerous factors, but there is no application needed and checks will be sent automatically to those who qualify. With many people struggling financially at this time, the Federal Government is going to focus on getting these funds out as expeditiously as possible, with direct deposits and checks starting to go out this month. Please visit this IRS website for more information.

Charitable Giving Incentive

Nonprofit organizations like the AFC are being impacted as many of our supporters feel a financial strain. If you or anyone you know of is able to increase their giving right now to us or to other nonprofit organizations, the CARES Act provides for an "above-the-line" deduction of up to $300 for cash donations made to charities this year for taxpayers who use the standard deduction. For more information, please consult your tax advisor.
