March 2020 | Membership
Members are the backbone of this ever-growing apostolate for families. Consisting of both celibate (Catholic Corps, Chaplaincy) and married members (Disciple), AFC Members have embraced the charism and spirituality of the AFC as their specific path to holiness. They actively carry out and support the ministries of the AFC.
Members in Action.
AFC Disciple Members Betsy Wolfe, Melinda Young, and Mary Ghaffari represented the AFC at the Mid-Atlantic Congress in Baltimore, Jan. 30-Feb. 1, 2020. During the congress, they were able to introduce a broad audience of pastoral, administrative, and faith formation directors to Family Consecration and the AFC’s ministry. “It was a joy to share our personal experiences with others in the hopes that they will experience the fruits of our mission,” said Betsy and Melinda
At the beginning of March, AFC Disciple Members Joe and Christy Menkhaustogether with Catholic Corps Members Roch Gillmore and Tim Croes represented the AFC at the Bringing America Back to Life Pro-Life Convention in Independence, OH. They estimated about 1,600 people attended. President Trump sent a letter to the convention expressing his support for its endeavors.
International Assembly of AFC Members.
Last weekend, Disciple and Catholic Corps Members of the AFC’s International Assembly gathered together to elect new members to the AFC Board of Directors. Rob Snyder was re-elected for another term. New members of the Board are Joe Menkhaus, Tim Rapp, and Mary Sue. They join current Board members Beth Phillips, Randy Christensen, Pete Maliani, Bill Keck, and Rory Freiermith. Aside from presentations from the AFC’s management team on the current state of affairs, members of the International Assembly synergized on how to help carry the AFC’s mission forward. They discussed fundraising, phone-a-thon calls, event promotion and logistics, and even helping out with facilities.
New & Exclusive AFC Member Formation Resources.
Re-established as a standing Board Committee in November, the Disciple Membership Committee has produced a membership formation track consisting of AFC resources exclusively available online to members.
Reawakening the Call for Sacri-State Associates.
In 1976, St. Teresa of Calcutta recommended to AFC founder Jerry Coniker: “For every active member in the Family Apostolate, find someone to suffer for the work in the Apostolate. This suffering member should offer his or her sufferings to the Holy Family for the apostolic work of a specific active member. This union would be the source of spiritual power that would make the active member’s work more fruitful.” Though never completely forgotten, we are re-emphasizing the importance of this practice in our Membership.
